EW2100 -- PowerMAX OS System
Administration (5 Days) To the Top
This course is designed to teach analysts and future system administrators how to
perform the tasks necessary to maintain the integrity of a Night Hawk based PowerMAX
system in production environments. The course guides the student through system
shutdown, reboot and adding users. The hierarchical file system is a primary focus
of this course with topics including creating, verifying, repairing, saving and
reloading of the file systems. Students also learn how to format disks, monitor
system performance and activity, produce accounting reports, configure the system's
peripherals, add and remove printer interfaces and control print spooler queuing
and printing.

Programming (5 Days) To the Top
This course is designed to provide students with the necessary instruction and hands-on
experience to effectively configure, operate, and use a Power Hawk computer system
in a Real-time application. The major topics of the course include interprocess
communication and synchronization methods, Real-time system configuration issues,
and associated interfaces, and Real-time development aids. Students create Real-time
C/C++ or FORTRAN programs that utilize the commands and concepts taught throughout
the course.

The Unix Software Overview course is designed to provide students with a working
knowledge of UNIX end-user and selected system administrator commands. File and
directory manipulation, file saving and restoration, and system generation are among
the topics presented.

EW2800 -- PowerMAX OS Real-time
Tools (5 Days) To the Top
This course is designed to provide instruction on the scheduling, performance, and
monitoring services with PowerMAX. Along with these services training is provided
in the associated interfaces to these services including the NightSim graphical
Frequency-based Scheduler/Performance Monitor interface and the NightProbe graphical
data monitoring tool. This course also includes instruction and hands-on experience
using the analytical tools in the Night Star tool set including NightTrace, the
graphical analysis tool and NightView, the graphical debugging tool. The primary
objective of this course is to train the student in the effective use of both the
real-time services and real-time tools available on a Concurrent Power Hawk system.
Prerequisite: Knowledge of the C language, EW2400 or sufficient experience with
a Concurrent real-time system, and all prerequisites to these courses.

This course is targeted towards customers who will be performing Night Hawk system
administration, applications programming, 3rd-party VME module installation/configuration
and integration of the Night Hawk into their application. An overview of the Night
Hawk system architecture is presented, focusing on three different perspectives:
operational, physical and functional. From the operational standpoint, detailed
description/analysis of the Console Processor command set will be presented, with
emphasis on system monitoring/debugging commands. From the physical point-of-view,
major component breakdown of each chassis style will be performed, with emphasis
placed on component configuration and capabilities. Finally, a functional description
of the Night Hawk hardware architecture is performed, focusing on multiprocessing
architecture, the cache and main memory hierarchy and the (H)VME subsystem. The
primary objective of this course is to provide the student with enough information
to accelerate the integration and development associated with using the Night Hawk
in their application.
Prerequisite: BSCS, or equivalent practical experience.

This course is designed to provide the necessary instruction required for line replaceable
unit (LRU) level corrective maintenance of any Power Hawk computer system. Major
course topics include system architecture, physical description; a detailed console
command set description, and in-depth functional overviews of all major system components.
Installation procedures for both hardware and PowerMAX OS software are presented,
and the Power Hawk diagnostic products are described in full. Disaster recovery
is presented to teach proper system backup and restore methods. System upgrades
are also discussed; with procedures for installing and configuring both loosely
coupled and closely coupled configurations.

N5800 -- Night Hawk 5000
Series System Maintenance (10 Days) To the Top
This course is targeted towards customers who will be performing their own preventive
and corrective maintenance, or who must initially troubleshoot problems associated
with the Night Hawk 5000 series computer systems. Emphasis on "hands-on" experience
provides the student with skills necessary to perform component removal and replacement
procedures on the system to the Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) level. A description
of the Console Processor command set is presented, and the student will perform
a detailed analysis of the system power-up, initialization and boot processes. Various
operational procedures will be presented, including system initialization and the
execution of both the Standalone (off-line) and On-line Diagnostic tools. Students
will also perform a complete CX/UX installation and configuration on a dedicated
training system, to ensure that they will be able to configure hardware devices
for software utilization and recover from catastrophic component failures, which
may result in the loss of disk-based software.

N6400 -- PowerMAXION System
Maintenance (10 Days) To the Top
The Concurrent PowerMAXION 640x series is a family of real-time, multiprocessing,
super-microcomputer based on the PowerPC 604 microprocessor. Consisting of the four
processor HN6400 and the eight processor HN6408, these systems provide the customer
with commercial off-the-shelf technology coupled with industry standard interfaces
to satisfy their real-time processing demands. In order to effectively perform system
installation/configuration, preventive maintenance and initial corrective maintenance
procedures, support personnel require some knowledge of the PowerMAXION system hardware
and software. The primary course objective of the PowerMAXION System Maintenance
course is to provide the student with the necessary instruction and hands-on experience
to achieve this level of knowledge.
This course is designed to provide the necessary instruction required for line replaceable
unit (LRU) level corrective maintenance of any PowerMAXION HN640x computer system.
Major course topics include system physical description; a detailed console command
set description, and in-depth functional overviews of all major system components.
Installation procedures for both hardware and PowerMAX OS software are presented,
and the HN6400 diagnostic products are described in full. Disaster recovery is presented
to teach proper system backup and restore methods. System upgrades are also discussed,
with procedures for maintenance to the LRU level on the HN6400 computer system and
associated peripherals. Students practice system operational procedures, diagnostic
execution, and basic troubleshooting on dedicated PowerMAXION training systems.
All laboratory sessions are designed to allow the student to develop logical troubleshooting
techniques.

N3300 -- CGM CR2 Computing Elements Operation and Maintenance (10

This course is designed for engineers and technicians who are responsible for the
integration, installation, testing and corrective maintenance of the computing elements
in CGM CR2 which use the Concurrent RedHawk Operating System. Specific configuration,
operation and maintenance of the IBM BladeCenter, Momentum VC-120 and Network Attached
Storage systems as applied to CGM CR2 will be presented.
Prerequisite: Working knowledge of basic LINUX system commands and a working knowledge
of the vi editor is assumed.

Real-Time Tools (5 Days) To the Top
The RH3400 training course provides instruction on the use of Concurrent’s NightStar
tool set. NightStar allows users to graphically debug, analyze, schedule, monitoring
and tune applications running on the RedHawk Linux real-time operating system. This
course includes hands-on experience using the tools to include NightView, NightTrace,
NightSim, NightProbe and NightTune. The primary objective of this course is to train
the student in the effective use of the real-time tools in conjunction with the
real-time services available under RedHawk Linux.
Prerequisite: Knowledge of C/C++, course RH3200 or sufficient experience with a
Concurrent real-time system.

RH3600 -- RedHawk Linux OS Device Drivers (5 Days) To the Top
This course is designed to provide experienced programmers with the tools and techniques
to develop device drivers for the RedHawk Linux operating system running on the
iHawk series of real-time multiprocessor systems. Students are also be exposed to
relevant kernel facilities, resources, and interfaces as applicable to driver development.
Classroom lecture is augmented by "hands-on" exercises to reinforce discussed topics.
Prerequisites: Proficiency of the C programming language is required. Familiarity
with Unix/Linux tools, utilities, editors, command shells and scripts, basic compilation
and linking, and makefile construction is recommended.

provided by the Concurrent Education Center. The education provided is a value-add
service that enhances the value of Concurrent products. It is an important part
of the solution that Concurrent offers to improve productivity and help customers
utilize their systems to meet their maximum potential and needs.
As a customer support service, education is the key to developing customer understanding
of Concurrent products. Professionally prepared training programs help increase
customer productivity and contribute to satisfaction with Concurrent systems.
The Concurrent education staff is dedicated to meeting customer training requirements
and providing them with high quality, up-to-date, professionally prepared training
programs. Students receive reference manuals and specially prepared materials needed
for course work and future reference.
Customers who enroll in the training programs typically have a wide range of experience
and backgrounds. The starting point for each student is usually different and learning
rates vary. Determining the experience of each student is a primary responsibility
of the instructor, who tailors each course to the student population. The result
is the best possible learning environment for each group and the most efficient
use of classroom time.
Experienced instructors using a live lecture/lab format teach classes. This format
offers students distinct advantages. Students can interact with their instructor
and fellow students to reinforce their understanding and gain knowledge specific
to their needs. Following classroom lectures and interactive discussions, students
perform laboratory exercises designed to augment and reinforce the lecture material.
Class sizes are limited to insure that each student is provided extensive access
to system processors for all lab sessions and to provide maximum personal instructor
attention to each student.
The scheduled courses listed are the regularly scheduled courses offered by the
Education Center. Additional course offerings can be arranged at either the Concurrent
Education Center or at a customer's facility when the standard schedule fails to
meet customer requirements.
The Concurrent Education Center is staffed with diversely talented, experienced,
professional instructors. The instructors have gained their experience from diverse
backgrounds in engineering, application programming, and military experience. From
within Concurrent, they have been a part of the analyst force, software development,
manufacturing, and diagnostic engineering. These backgrounds allow them to design
courses from perspectives ideally matching those of a customer's educational requirements.
Instructors' expertise ranges from intimate familiarity with the hardware architecture
to in-depth knowledge of the internals of the operating system. To keep current
in this knowledge, the training staff is continually in contact with the development,
support, and manufacturing organizations, exchanging information about changes in
hardware and software and current product configurations and improvements.

The Concurrent Education Center consists of two training facilities. The facility
for On-Demand products is located in Duluth, Georgia and the facility for Real-Time
products resides in Pompano Beach, Florida, just north of Ft. Lauderdale. These
facilities are carefully designed to provide multiple learning environments to maximize
student benefit. Training takes place in a combination of lecture/discussion or
lecture/lab environments.
The Concurrent Education Center offers three distinct varieties of courses: operating
systems and utilities, system hardware and application. For each of these programs,
introductory through advanced courses are available. Customer satisfaction can be
assured by determining what level of training is needed.
To complement our product line, we offer a curriculum to encompass the types of
courses needed in customer environments. In addition, as more products become available
on newer Concurrent systems, our courses are being redesigned to include those platforms
in the material presented in lecture and in the lab exercises provided for the student.

The flexibility of on-site classes is provided by the Education Center for those
customers who want to enroll a group of students in the same course. The customer
can realize a substantial savings in travel costs. Instead of paying for multiple students’ travel expenses to Concurrent facilities,
only the instructor’s cost of travel and expenses to the customer’s facilities is
incurred. Greater savings are realized for larger classes. Besides the difference
in travel costs, there is a substantial savings in tuition depending upon the number
of students enrolled.
In addition to these reductions in cost, there are several intangible benefits from
choosing on-site courses:
- Employees will be trained on the Concurrent computer and peripherals
for which they will be responsible.

Multiple employees will not be absent from the customer's facility simultaneously.
Optimum scheduling can be achieved based on customer requirements.
Should the implementation of a Concurrent computer system require training which
is not one of the regularly scheduled courses as listed in the published schedule,
a customized course can be prepared and taught at the Education Center or on-site.
This customized course can take the form of modifying the format of an existing
course or developing a completely new course.
Pricing for standard scheduled courses can be found in the Training Schedule. In-house
training classes are subject to cancellation due to insufficient enrollment of students.
All non-standard, custom and on-site courses require a home office evaluation prior
to committing to delivery or pricing.
- The customer is responsible for the instructor's travel expenses,
lodging, and meals.
- Customized courses will also include a preparation fee.
- A non-refundable deposit of 25% of the course price is required
for all on-site, custom and non-scheduled courses.
- A maximum of 8 students per on-site or custom class; additional
students may be allowed on a per-student fee of one hundred dollars per day.
- On-site instruction includes one set of training materials for each
student enrolled in the class.
- Additional sets of training materials will be available at an appropriate
cost.
Concurrent Technical Education personnel will use appropriate caution to assure
the integrity of a customer's system is maintained, however, the customer should
fully back up the system prior to the course to insure its recovery to usable condition
after the completion of the training.
