ATLANTA, GA— November 30, 2009 — Concurrent (NASDAQ: CCUR), a leading provider of time-critical Linux® operating systems, integrated software and computer solutions for mission-critical applications, today announced RedHawk Linux 5.4, a new version of its popular real-time operating system. RedHawk Linux is widely used in time-critical applications in simulation and training, data acquisition, imaging, financial services and process control. RedHawk guarantees that a user-level application can respond to an external event in less than 15 microseconds on certified platforms.
New features in RedHawk Linux 5.4 include:
- Enhanced 2.6.31 Linux kernel
- Full compatibility with Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 5 update 4
- Pre-included CUDA parallel computing SDK support optimized for real-time
- The latest NVIDIA graphics driver optimized for real-time performance including use of MSI interrupts
- Support for the latest available Intel® and AMD® processors and chipsets
- Support for systems with greater than 32 cores
- Linux Performance Counter support for hardware and software events
- New pagemap address viewing utility for NUMA platforms
“Version 5.4 reinforces RedHawk as the leading Linux distribution for hard real-time applications,” said Ken Jackson, Vice President, Real-Time for Concurrent. “Our on-going support of the most current technologies allows us to offer our customers the most cost-effective, high-performance, real-time solutions in a timely manner.”
Support for the latest Intel Nehalem and AMD Opteron processors and chipsets with generation 2.0 PCIe provides for more computing power in smaller, more cost-effective, energy efficient packages than previously possible. RedHawk Linux dramatically improves the determinism of real-time processes in non-uniform memory architecture (NUMA) platforms such as Intel QuickPath and AMD HyperTransport. RedHawk ensures that all pages of a real-time process are local to a given node and that no other process’ pages are using that same node. RedHawk can automatically duplicate libraries and other modules as needed and maintain them simultaneously in multiple nodes to maximize performance.
RedHawk also includes the latest available NVIDIA graphics driver specially optimized for real-time performance by Concurrent. The enhanced driver allows applications to achieve maximum determinism during image rendering. RedHawk also supports CUDA, the parallel computing technology developed by NVIDIA corporation. RedHawk enhancements enable CUDA applications using NVIDA graphics and Tesla cards and to run with real-time determinism.
The performance of Concurrent’s NightStar™ tools, a powerful integrated package for developing time-critical Linux applications, has been further enhanced by RedHawk 5.4 NightStar tools run with minimal intrusion, thus preserving application execution behavior and determinism. Users can quickly and easily debug, monitor, schedule, analyze and tune applications in real-time. RedHawk’s lockless kernel trace feature eliminates any contention when multiple CPUs attempt to log trace points simultaneously. This feature is important as users scale up to systems with greater than 32 cores.
RedHawk Linux is included with all Concurrent iHawk™ real-time multiprocessors, ImaGen™ visual servers, MediaHawk™ Content Delivery Systems and is also available as a software-only product for embedded applications. Concurrent real-time platforms can be currently configured with up to 48 CPU cores in one system chassis running a single copy of RedHawk Linux.
RedHawk Linux has been deployed in hundreds of installations worldwide including the U.S. Navy Aegis Open Architecture programs, Airbus, Alcatel, Boeing, Ford Motor Company, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Toshiba TEC and many more.
