BULLETIN NUMBER: SWB-001

DATE ISSUED: July 19, 2001

DATE CLOSED: July 24, 2001 (Corrected in PowerMAX OS 4.3P8 & 5.1SR2)

AFFECTED SYSTEMS: Power Hawk Model 640, PowerStack II (MTX)

PROGRAM NAME: PowerMAX OS

RELEASE LEVEL: 4.3 & 5.1

EXPLANATION: A Power Hawk Model 640 or PowerStack II (MTX) system running the

PowerMAX OS 5.1 Operation System may panic shortly after an auto-reboot.

An auto-reboot can occur if a system administrator uses:

shutdown –g0 –y –i6 -or- init 6

to reboot the system. It may also occur if the system panics and the

system automatically reboots to take a system dump.

RESOLUTION: This problem is currently being addressed by Software Engineering. Until a fix

becomes available; however, the following procedure should be performed in reboots

to avoid the possibility of a subsequent system panic.

When rebooting the system do either:

    1. Bring the system fully down to the PPCBug by issuing the ‘~b’ command. Then allow the system to reboot.
    2. Bring the system fully down and cycle the power. Then allow it to reboot normally.
